We’re digging for victory!

The seeds planted at our end of term service have been looked after in the greenhouse and are now about ready to be planted out in the raised vegetable beds that we prepared last week. Year 5 and 6 pupils have constructed bean frames for beans to grow up and our Reception and Year 1 pupils have now planted out the sweetcorn.

We have one bed that is dedicated to spinach and potatoes. We have learnt that during World War 2, it became necessary for the country to grow all it’s own food as goods from overseas often didn’t reach the UK. Staying healthy during the war was vital too so we will soon be learning about how our produce fits in to food groups and will be cooking some wartime recipes too.
